Newport/Lab

I’m excited to share with you details of a recent group photographic exhibition I featured in: Newport/Lab, which was part of the Diffusion Festival, Wales.

I exhibited alongside photographers Bandia Ribeira, Clementine Schneidermann, Daragh Soden, Lua Ribeira, Michael Alberry, Sebastian Bruno, and overseeing curation was Isaac Blease.

“Newport/Lab is an exhibition by a group of photographers who all lived together during their studies on the Documentary Photography course at the University of South Wales in Newport (now Cardiff). The show is broken into three stages; firstly the displaying of pictures made during their studies, secondly a live-laboratory in which the group returned to Newport to make new images, and then finally the exhibition resulting from work made, printed and installed during the live lab.” (Isaac Blease, Curator)

My response built upon an earlier obsession with the river Usk and was inspired by the formal qualities of its natural processes. During the lab, I walked its banks, collecting and photographing its clustered debris and dispersed wild flora, bringing these materials into the space and arranging them into an installation.

My aim was to build upon my previous work, constructing the world within the images, and transporting the viewer into a dreamlike, metaphoric space that embodies the river and its constant cycles of death and rebirth.

Below are photographs of the exhibition. If anybody would like a copy of the publication, please just send me an email with your address and I will post you one.
